C-Peptide (human) or connecting peptide is a short peptide that connects the A- and B-chains of insulin in proinsulin molecule, a precursor of insulin. After proinsulin is packaged into vesicles in the Golgi apparatus, the C-peptide is removed, leaving the A-chain and B-chain bound together by disulfide bonds that constitute the insulin molecule. In diabetes patients, the C-peptide levels in blood serum are used for diagnosis. For research use only, do not use in humans!
