Peptides in HIV Research: JPT’s Peptide Tools!

Published on 09/12/2025

This Monday was World AIDS Day!

HIV Research Still Matters!

Despite major advances in antiretroviral therapy and prevention tools such as PrEP, HIV continues to affect millions globally.  Besides diagnosis and treatment access in vulnerable populations, challenges such as drug resistance, viral reservoirs, and the absence of a widely effective vaccine keep the scientific community focused on innovative approaches.

Peptides have emerged as versatile tools in HIV research for several key reasons:

  • Studying Virus-Host Interactions
  • Developing new therapeutic strategies (e.g. next-generation antiviral drug, such as fusion-inhibiting peptides)
  • Immune monitoring for epitope-specific vaccine research and development
  • Targeting viral latent HIV-positive cell reservoirs

JPT's Catalog Peptide Tools

We are known for high quality peptide synthesis and also offer a large variety of more than 1000 peptide-based catalog products. The following peptide tools are available off-the-shelf and ready-to-use!

  1. PepMix™ Ultra Pools
HIV has a very high mutation frequency, thereby the virus comes with many sequence variations. PepMix™ ULTRA pools cover sequence diversity within a virus or type of cancer using the least possible number of peptides, while maintaining a reliable immune response read-out. We offer ready-to-use peptide pools covering the proteins GAG, ENV (gp120, gp41, and/or precursor envleope protein gp160), NEF and POL.

  2. Antigen Peptides
Instead of pools, we also offer antigen peptides which represent individual immune dominant HIV epitopes for antigen-specific immune response profiling.

  3. PepStar™ Peptide Microarrays
Compared to protein microarrays, JPT’s PepStar™ Peptide Microarrays are the more reliable tool for biomarker discovery, immune monitoring, enzyme profiling and studying protein interactions. These immobilized peptides on a glass slide provide a high-density format and are synthesized via the proprietary fast high-throughput SPOT technology.

  4. Cell Penetrating Peptides
Peptides can mimic parts of HIV proteins or human cell receptors. By doing so, they help researchers better understand how the virus binds, fuses, and enters cells, which is essential knowledge for developing future therapies.
Explore our comprehensive selection of cell penetrating peptides (CPPs), specifically designed for research and development in drug delivery, molecular biology, and therapeutic applications. These cationic and arginine-rich CPPs are based on the HIV TAT and HIV D-TAT sequences and can be used as cargo delivery systems across cell membranes and to study intracellular processes.
