Today, we are continuing the series with our new US-based colleague Henry Cryst. He is a new specialist in JPT's North-American Business Development Team. With his expertise Henry will assist you with your project endeavors.

Hi, I am Henry Cryst, JPT‘s new Sales and Technical Support Representative for the US West Coast. I come from Carnegie Mellon’s Master’s program in Biomedical Engineering and Business focusing on Biomaterials. Before coming to JPT I worked at the Altius Institute for Biomedical Sciences in Seattle, WA doing genetics research.

How was your transition to JPT?

So far it has been a fantastic transition. The team here is invested supporting each other so that we all succeed! It was especially great to come and visit Berlin and meet so many people there. Everyone was very welcoming and it really made me feel like part of the team!

How did the pandemic affect your work?

School during the pandemic was a challenge because it was primarily remote and I had to move across the country to a new city. However, I gained a lot from the experience, I think it also has made me far more comfortable in the remote environment which is great for working at a company based in Europe!

What skills do you think are essential for someone in your position?

Strong communication skills are vital, as is a solid understanding of both the scientific and business aspects of the industry. Technical knowledge of peptides and their applications is crucial, but equally important is the ability to build relationships and empathize with clients to truly understand their needs.

Can you share a bit about your typical day as a Sales and Technical Support Representative?

A typical day involves a mix of reaching out to potential clients, providing technical support to existing customers, and collaborating with our R&D team. I spend time understanding customer needs and ensuring they have the right peptides for their research.

What challenges do you face in your role?

One challenge is keeping up with the rapid advancements in peptide technology and ensuring I can provide the best support to our clients. And the market is always evolving. Additionally, establishing relationships with new clients can take time, but building trust is key to long-term partnerships.

How do you see the future of the peptide market?

I believe the peptide market will continue to grow significantly. As research expands into new therapeutic areas and delivery methods improve, we’ll see more peptides being used in clinical applications. The ongoing collaboration between biotech firms and academic institutions will also drive innovation and open new avenues for research.
